Winter Kiteboarding

UMD RSOP Snow Kiting on Island Lake - with Randy Carlson & Anna Burggraff

In the middle of Winter bright colors and movement of snow kiters instantly grabs your attention.  Have you been wondering how a large kite can be used with your alpine skis or snowboard?  This is your chance to learn more about riding the Winter wind and the wide variety of snow kiting equipment that is used.  Learn how to choose your launch area and the best kite for the day that will be prepared for launch and piloting.  These kites have a control bar for steering with depower features and a full depower safety system for when you or your kite crashes.  If you have tangled lines you will need to use self-rescue skills to solve the problem and continue riding.

This is a very exciting way to spend a Winter day outside while exercising your mind and your body but success will not come easy.  Learning to balance all of the variables that go with snow kiting makes the sport very rewarding as you gain control and freedom to explore!
