Book Club: Wilhelm's Way

Book Club

You are invited to join the Alumni Book Club on Tuesday, July 23 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm (CT) to discuss Wilhelm's Way: The Inspiring Story of the Iowa Chemist Who Saved the Manhattan Project with author and UMD alum, Teresa Wilhelm Waldof.

Before Oppenheimer there was Wilhelm. In February 1942, leaders of the Manhattan Project had a problem: to prove a controlled nuclear chain reaction was possible, they needed pure uranium—tons of it and in less than ten months. With only a few grams in existence, there was little hope anyone could achieve such a feat. Harley Wilhelm, a chemistry professor at Iowa State College, rose to the challenge. Wilhelm’s Way reveals the life and times of this unsung hero who helped America win the race to build the atomic bomb and end World War II.

The Alumni Book Club is free to join and participants are responsible for purchasing their own copy of Wilhelm's Way: The Inspiring Story of the Iowa Chemist Who Saved the Manhattan Project

*If you purchase your book directly from Teresa’s website, she will sign your copy. Additionally, in the “order notes” section, indicate you are participating in the UMD Alumni book club and she will personalize it.
