This unique travel experience combines learning, cultural exploration, and opportunities to connect with other Bulldogs and UMD representatives. The tour will explore destinations in the Finnish cities of Rovaniemi, Inari, and Helsinki, along with stops in Norway.

Experience Finland in Every Way
During the program, participants will visit iconic destinations, experience Finnish culture and traditions, enjoy local cuisine, and gain insight into Finland’s world-renowned education system, sustainability initiatives, and innovative technologies. Led by UMD Finnish and Sámi expert Chelsey Miller and UMD alumni staff, Ethan Bergman, travelers will connect with fellow alumni, build new friendships, and create lasting memories while exploring one of the world’s most dynamic and inspiring countries.
Whether you're reconnecting with UMD, traveling with family or friends, or exploring Finland for the first time, this program offers a fun and meaningful way to learn about another country while connecting with the UMD community.
The program is open to alumni, friends, and supporters of UMD who are interested in travel, lifelong learning, and experiencing one of the world's most unique and beautiful countries.

Join us for virtual information sessions to learn more about the trip, including the itinerary, destinations, accommodations, activities, estimated costs, and what to expect when traveling with fellow UMD alumni and friends. Each session will be led by UMD staff and held over Zoom.

Program Overview
Everything you need to know at a glance
- What are the dates?
This program will run from May 19-27, 2027. This means participants will need to schedule their departure flight from the U.S. on May 18 so they arrive in Finland on May 19. - Where will this program take place?
The majority of this program will take place in Finland. A day trip to Norway is also included. - Who can participate?
Our program is open to alumni and friends of the University of Minnesota Duluth. Friends and family are welcome to join even if they are not alumni of UMD. - What is the typical group size?
The number of participants in this program can range from 15-36 people. - Will there be free time?
Independent exploration is an integral part of any international experience. We consciously included free time throughout the program so participants may explore their individual interests.

- What is included in the program fee?
All in-country transportation, accommodations, program activities outlined in the itinerary, and some meals are included in the program. - What is not included in the program fee?
International insurance, some meals, round-trip airfare from the U.S., and personal spending. - When is payment due?
Payment is due January 1, 2027. - How do I sign up?
Those interested in participating and looking for more information, can submit the Information Request Form online. - What is the application deadline?
Applications for this program are due December 13, 2026.
Accommodations & Travel Logistics
Where you'll stay and how the experience is structured
- What are the accommodations?
Participants will be housed in 3-star hotels in each host city, and those traveling together may request to share a room, while participants traveling alone will be paired with another program participant and accommodated in a double room with separate beds.- If you have any questions or concerns regarding these arrangements, please contact us at [email protected]
- Can I depart earlier or return home later than the group?
You may elect to travel prior to the program, after the program, or both. Participants are required to arrive in the program arrival city and must remain a part of the program until the official end date.

Participants will need a passport with an expiration date at least 6 months after their return to the United States. - Should I purchase travel insurance?
We strongly recommend that you enroll in adequate travel insurance so you are covered against any last minute trip cancellations and other travel related risks. - Can I participate if I don't speak the language?

Participants must be 18 years or older to participate in this program.
