Bulldogs Behind the Scenes: UMD Bureau of Business and Economic Research

You are invited to Bulldogs Behind the Scenes featuring a look at the UMD Bureau of Business and Economic Research.

A community resource for more than 60 years, LSBE’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) might just be UMD’s best kept secret. But in the past five years, this small but mighty entity (made up of just two staff and a handful of undergraduate research assistants) has completed roughly 40 funded research projects, delivered 48 presentations to community stakeholders, and published more than 120 online articles. The bureau’s research is diverse and covers a wide range of topics including tourism, forest products, energy, public assistance, and economic development.

BBER Director Monica Haynes will talk about some of the BBER’s notable research projects, how the organization leverages community and university partnerships to provide information to the broader community, and the role that undergraduate students play in the BBER’s mission (with a few “where are they now” stories thrown in for good measure). Join us to learn more about this unique entity as well as some valuable insights into the regional economy.
