Experience Virtual UMD Classes

During the week of Monday, March 16 – Friday, March 20, UMD faculty will open their doors to alumni who want to revisit the classroom experience. This special opportunity allows alumni to sit in on real-time virtual courses, engage with current content, and see firsthand how teaching and learning are happening at UMD today. All sessions will be hosted on Zoom, and alumni are welcome to join as many classes as they like.

Monday, March 16

English, Linguistics, & Writing Studies: Writing & Cultures

Monday, March 16 | 3:00 - 4:30 PM (CT)

Instructor: David Beard, Writing Studies BA Program Coordinator & Professor of Rhetoric

In this course, students explore nonfiction graphic novels that examine themes of loneliness, distance, and rural life. They then participate in a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project with students in Ecuador, working together to co-edit an international collection of writings on these themes. The final collection is published and made available on Amazon.

Applied Human Sciences: Administrative Aspects of Coaching

This course, a core component of the coaching minor, introduces students to the administrative responsibilities essential to leading athletic programs. Topics include state governing organizations, budgeting, scheduling, insurance, contest administration, and public relations—all approached from the perspective of a coach or athletic administrator.

Civil & Environmental Engineering: Geotechnical Design
